Kaveh Edalati Laboratory

Our group in Kyushu University is a member of the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I²CNER), an institute with the mission of conducting fundamental interdisciplinary research to reduce CO₂ emission. The strategy of our group toward this mission is developing novel superfunctional energy/nano materials by engineering chemical composition and lattice defects. Our methodology is mainly based on experimental approaches with deep nanostructural characterization in combination with theoretical studies. We particularly specialize in tailoring the nanostructural features and functional properties of metallic and ceramic materials under large plastic strain and/or high pressure using severe plastic deformation methods such as high-pressure torsion (HPT). We also work on using high-entropy alloys and ceramics for these functional applications. Our research focus is currently on three main topics.

- Development of New Photocatalysts with High Activity for Hydrogen Production and CO₂ Conversion

- Development of New Hydrides for Room-Temperature Hydrogen Storage

- Development of Nanomaterials with Unique Mechanical Properties

九州大学の本研究室は、カーボンニュートラル・エネルギー国際研究所 (I²CNER) のメンバーです。I²CNERは、CO₂排出量を削減するための学際的な基礎研究を行うことを使命としています。この使命に向けた本研究室の戦略は、化学組成と格子欠陥を操作することによる、新たな超機能エネルギー/ナノ材料の開発です。私たちの方法論は主に、深層ナノ構造特性評価を理論的研究と組み合わせた実験的アプローチに基づいています。私たちは特に、高圧ねじり (HPT) などの強塑性変形法を使用して、大きな塑性ひずみおよび/または高圧下での金属およびセラミック材料のナノ構造の特徴と機能特性の調整を専門としています。また、これらの機能的用途に高エントロピー合金とセラミックスを使用することにも取り組んでいます。現在、私たちの研究テーマは主に以下の3 つです：
- 水素製造やCO₂ 変換のための高活性の新規光触媒の開発
- 常温水素貯蔵用の新規水素化合物の開発
- ユニークな力学特性を持つナノ材料の開発
